Overview
Adults are individuals who have attained physical and psychosocial maturity, a population spanning young, middle-aged, and older adulthood, each with distinct developmental tasks and health concerns. Across adulthood, accumulating exposures and behaviors shape risk for chronic disease, functional decline, and mental-health conditions, while psychological factors such as mood, coping, and adherence influence outcomes; structured interventions, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, are widely applied to manage psychological distress and to support behavior change in the management of chronic illness. In older adults in particular, the prevention of falls, preservation of musculoskeletal and cognitive function, and maintenance of emotional wellbeing become central. Research relevant to this topic examines vitamin D status in relation to falls and balance in older adults, anthropometric measurement in older adults, loneliness and bedtime procrastination in young adults, the effects of physical activity on sleep across adults, diet and nutritional status in older adults, depression and executive dysfunction in young adults, and fall-prevention and health-literacy interventions. Related work addresses sarcopenia, hip fracture, and exercise among older community-dwelling adults. The journal publishes peer-reviewed research on the health, behavior, and wellbeing of adults across the lifespan, including the psychological and behavioral dimensions relevant to Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and the self-management of chronic conditions.
