Overview

Technology, as a domain of research, is the systematic application of scientific knowledge to create tools, devices, materials, and processes that extend human capability and solve practical problems. It advances continuously as scientists and engineers develop new instruments, computational methods, and engineered systems, and its impact is felt across medicine, agriculture, manufacturing, and the environment. The studies collected here illustrate technology as applied capability across many fields rather than a single discipline. Medical and clinical technologies feature strongly, including optical energy-transfer systems for corneal crosslinking, perimetry methods for detecting visual-field abnormalities, geographic information systems for strengthening health delivery, and instrumentation for assessing endothelial and vascular function. Bioengineering and fabrication appear in three-dimensional bioprinting coupled with organ-on-a-chip systems and in process technologies such as supercritical-fluid methods. Assistive and therapeutic technologies are represented by tools supporting adaptive skills in neurodegenerative disease and by tactile stimulation methods used in stress modulation. Agricultural technology features in precision-farming systems, while nanotechnology and cell-based immunotherapy extend the frontier. Technology-enhanced lifestyle interventions in primary care illustrate translation to everyday practice. Together this literature frames technology as the engineering of new capability, where progress depends not only on invention but on validation, integration into workflows, and demonstrable benefit to health and society.
