Overview

Cultured cells are cells removed from an organism and propagated under controlled laboratory conditions, providing a defined system for studying cellular processes outside the complexity of the whole organism. Cell culture encompasses primary cultures, established and immortalized cell lines, and stem-cell-derived systems, maintained in media supplying nutrients, growth factors, and controlled physicochemical conditions. It underpins research into proliferation, differentiation, signaling, senescence, and the response of cells to drugs, toxins, and microenvironmental cues, and serves as a platform for cytotoxicity testing and disease modeling. The peer-reviewed research collected here reflects these themes through studies of mesenchymal stem cells differentiating into odontoblasts, channel-blocker protection against anesthetic-induced damage in neuronal SH-SY5Y cells, and cytoplasmic retention of CDC6 inducing premature senescence in immortalized cells. Further contributions examine substrate stiffness and its influence on protein expression in Müller cells, the evolution of solid human tumor cell properties across in vitro systems, resveratrol cytoprotection in astrocytes under oxidative stress, and cell-metabolism targeting in leukaemia. Work on monoclonal antibody isolation and on wound healing in three-dimensional in vitro models further illustrates culture-based methods. Methodologically, the literature draws on cell-line and primary culture, cytotoxicity and senescence assays, biomechanical manipulation, and molecular analysis, illustrating how cultured cells connect mechanistic cell biology, pharmacology, and disease modeling within controlled experimental settings.
