Overview
Fungal Diversity refers to the immense number of species of fungi in the natural world. Fungi are incredibly important organisms that are vital to the health and stability of many ecosystems. Fungi contribute to the cycling of nutrients, contribute to the decomposition of organic material, and are critical components of the food web. They are also used to produce many types of food items, such as beer, cheese, and tempeh. Fungi also have many medicinal uses, and have been used to fight off diseases and infections for centuries. Fungal Diversity is therefore essential for the preservation of many ecosystems and for the production of countless products and medicines.
