Overview

Biochemistry is the branch of science that studies the chemical processes happening inside living organisms. It is an important field of study which plays a critical role in understanding the structure and functioning of cells and organisms, as well as in disease diagnosis, treatments and prevention. Through biochemistry, we are able to learn more about genetic alterations that underlie many diseases, and then use drug targets to develop treatments. Biochemistry also has numerous applications in areas such as food science and nutrition, medical diagnostics, environmental science and drug development.
