Overview
Molecular marine biotechnology is a branch of biotechnology which focuses on the application of molecular biology techniques to exploit the genetic resources in marine environments. It is used for a wide range of activities including developing new drugs, discovering new sources of natural products, and advancing the understanding of genetic diversity. It has the potential to lead to improvements in human health and welfare, as well as offering new opportunities for aquaculture and sustainable fisheries. Molecular marine biotechnology is essential for advancing our understanding of the diversity and complexity of marine ecosystems, enabling us to make decisions which can benefit both human and aquatic life.
