Aims and Scope

Journal of Osteoarthritis and Cartilage (JOC) is a peer-reviewed, open-access journal devoted to the clinical, radiographic, and histological assessment of osteoarthritis and cartilage. It publishes research related to the clinical manifestations, diagnosis, management, and prognosis of osteoarthritis, as well as research on issues related to the structure, function, and regulation of articular cartilage. 

 

JOC focuses specifically on the diagnosis and treatment of osteoarthritis, which is the most common joint disorder. JOC strives to advance the understanding of the biological mechanisms that underlie the development and progression of the disease and to translate these discoveries into clinical practice. The topics covered include, but are not limited to, joint anatomy, biomechanics, biochemistry, physiology, epidemiology, treatment modalities, and imaging. JOC also emphasizes societal and public health issues associated with osteoarthritis.

 

JOC is a closely related discipline that studies and treats physical degeneration, trauma, and genetics-related impairment of joint cartilage and dependent articulations in both adult and pediatric patients. Commonly known as ‘wear and tear arthritis, it is a degenerative joint disease frequently associated with aging. The disease can cause pain, joint stiffness, and a gradual loss of joint function.x Cartilage, the fibrous tissue which covers the surface of bones and provides cushioning between them, is also subject to breakdown due to injury, disease, or degenerative changes in the joint. It provides a range of research opportunities for scientists, clinicians, and students of all levels. Research focuses range from identifying new treatments for Osteoarthritis and cartilage damage to developing new technologies for diagnosing and managing chronic conditions related to Osteoarthritis. With a rapid increase in the number of scientific studies devoted to Osteoarthritis and Cartilage, related literature is rapidly expanding. 

 

JOC is committed to advancing the knowledge of Osteoarthritis and Cartilage, especially in areas such as Joint Examination and Imaging, Proteomics, Biomarkers, Biomechanics, Systematic Reviews and Meta-analysis, Economic Evaluation, and Cartilage Repair in Adults and Paediatrics. The journal also welcomes reviews, opinion pieces, editorials, case reports, and other relevant literature in alignment with its scope.
