How the board handles a manuscript

The same procedure applies to every submission, whoever the authors are and whichever editor receives it.

Assignment. A submission is screened by the editorial office and assigned to an editor whose field covers its subject. Where a manuscript spans clinical and nutritional questions, the handling editor draws on reviewers from both.

Peer review. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.

Competing interests and recusal. Editors declare competing interests and recuse themselves from any manuscript they cannot assess impartially, including their own submissions and those of close collaborators. A recused editor takes no part in the decision, which is made independently.

Independence. Editorial and peer-review decisions are independent of payment, membership, editorial roles and any paid service. The full requirements are on the Editorial Policies page.

Manuscripts are assessed for scope, scholarly quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, and research integrity.

Serving the journal

Joining the board or reviewing

The journal welcomes researchers and clinicians in pediatric health and nutrition who are willing to take editorial or reviewing responsibility. What each role involves, and how to put yourself forward, is set out in the guidance for editors and for reviewers. Editorial and reviewing roles confer no advantage in the review or acceptance of the holder's own manuscripts.
