Submit your research to JTMH

Journal of Tropical Diseases and Medicine welcomes submissions throughout the year from researchers, clinicians and multidisciplinary teams working across tropical infectious disease and tropical medicine, in endemic settings and in the centers that receive imported and travel-associated infection.

Regular submissions are accepted throughout the year. The journal does not run submission windows, does not limit the number of manuscripts it will consider, and does not set deadlines that affect whether a manuscript is assessed.

Current research priorities

Work in any area of the journal's scope is considered on the same terms. These are the questions the editors are most interested in seeing answered, because the field has not settled them.

Resistance

Antimalarial, antiparasitic and antimicrobial resistance in tropical settings: detection, geographic spread, the mechanisms behind it, and what remains usable when first-line treatment fails.

Vector control under pressure

Insecticide resistance, outdoor and residual transmission, and the evaluation of control measures where the standard tools are losing effect.

Diagnosis where it is made

Performance of rapid, molecular and microscopic diagnosis in the setting of actual use rather than under trial conditions, and what follows clinically when a test performs differently there.

Holding elimination

Surveillance and response in settings that have reached low transmission, where case numbers no longer justify the program that produced them.

Neglected tropical diseases after mass treatment

Reinfection dynamics, morbidity that persists after infection is cleared, and the point at which treatment frequency should change.

Imported and travel-associated disease

Recognition, delay to diagnosis and outcome outside endemic regions, and what changing travel and migration patterns mean for clinicians who see these infections rarely.

Emerging transmission

Zoonotic spillover, vectors extending into new ranges, and arboviral introductions — where the tropical-disease connection is supported by empirical or modeling evidence appropriate to the question.

Work the journal particularly wants to see

• Careful negative and partial results. A well-conducted study that did not find what it looked for is considered on the same basis as one that did.
• Replication and repeat measurement. A second prevalence estimate from a comparable setting is what turns a data point into a map.
• Studies led from the settings they describe, reported in terms the investigators who did the work would recognize.
• Method and protocol papers that let another group do the same thing the same way.
• Field and outbreak reports with the case definition, denominators and response set out.

Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
