Overview

Proteomics and genomics in plant research is the study of the complete sets of proteins and genetic material in plants to understand how they grow, develop, and respond to their environment. Genomics examines a plant's DNA, its genes, and how they are organized and expressed, while proteomics analyzes the proteins those genes produce, including their abundance, modifications, and interactions. Together these complementary approaches reveal the molecular basis of plant traits, from yield and quality to tolerance of stresses such as drought, salinity, disease, and extreme temperatures. By linking genes to the proteins that carry out cellular functions, plant proteomics and genomics support efforts to improve crops, breed for resilience, and understand fundamental plant biology. High-throughput sequencing, mass spectrometry, and bioinformatics allow researchers to handle the large datasets these studies generate, identifying genes and proteins associated with desirable characteristics and with responses to environmental challenges. As a topic within Proteomics and Genomics Research, this field applies molecular tools to questions of agriculture, plant physiology, and sustainability. This page gathers peer-reviewed, open-access research relevant to proteomics, genomics, and the molecular study of biological systems, providing context for their application in plant research.
