Peer-reviewed research on proteins and on genomes — how they are measured, how the measurements are analyzed, and what they support. Proteomics and genomics are published here as complete fields in their own right, and so is the work that reads the two together.

Schematic. A nucleotide sequence read in three frames: each frame translates the same bases from a different start position, and only the second runs from a start codon to an in-frame stop while the other two terminate early. Translation is the one process that contains both halves of this journal's title, which is why the reading frame is its motif.

Review, rights and charges

Peer review
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request.
Editorial decisions
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. Decisions are taken independently of any fee, membership, service or role.
Data availability
Every empirical research manuscript must include a data-availability statement. On protein- and genome-scale work that is the statement which lets a reader reach the spectra, sequences, accessions and analysis code behind a result.

Articles are published open access under CC BY 4.0, and authors retain copyright.
Article processing charge
USD 2,100, charged after acceptance only. There is no submission fee. Billing and fee-relief inquiries are handled by the editorial office and take no part in the editorial decision.

Research articles, reviews and short reports are read throughout the year. Read the preparation requirements first, then choose a route. The article processing charge of USD 2,100 is charged after acceptance only.
