Biography:

  • Dr. Charles Edward Rupprecht received his BA in Ecology during 1977 from Rutgers University, his M.S in Zoology during 1980 from the University of Wisconsin, his VMD during 1985 from the University of Pennsylvania and his Ph.D in Biological Sciences during 1986 from the University of Wisconsin.
  • He completed postdoctoral wok under Tadeusz Wiktor and Hilary Koprowski at the Wistar Institute in Philadelphia, where he was employed until 1992, attaining the rank of Associate Professor, until employment in the Department of Microbiology at Thomas Jefferson University.
  • During 1993, he was recruited to the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention, where he was the Chief of the Rabies Program, Director of the WHO Collaborating Centre for Reference and Research on Rabies, and Head of the U.S. Rabies Reference Laboratory for OIE. During 2012 he joined the Global Alliance for Rabies Control as Director for Research.
  • He was recruited to the Ross University School of Veterinary Medicine in 2013, where he was a Professor in Epidemiology & Public Health, Director of the Center for Conservation Medicine & Ecosystem Health, and Associate Dean for Research.
  • Currently he is the CEO of LYSSA LLC as a biomedical consultant and is an Adjunct Professor at the Wistar Institute. Over the past 35 years, he has received numerous academic awards, co-authored more than 350 peer-reviewed articles, numerous book chapters and hundreds of Abstracts on rabies and other viral diseases.
  • He has travelled extensively, served as an Expert Technical Advisor to the World Health Organization and the Pan American Health Organization.
