01 · Scope
One disease, read across its whole course
Thyroid carcinoma is described by disciplines that rarely share a journal: the laboratory that characterizes the driver mutation, the cytopathologist who reads the aspirate, the radiologist and the surgeon who plan the operation, the nuclear-medicine physician who delivers the radioiodine, and the endocrinologist who follows the patient for decades afterwards. JTC publishes across all of them, and welcomes differentiated, medullary, anaplastic and rare thyroid malignancies alike.

- Biology
- Diagnosis
- Treatment
- Outcomes
-
01
Biology and molecular oncology
Genetic drivers of thyroid malignancy and the signaling they dysregulate: BRAF, RAS and RET/PTC rearrangements, MAPK/ERK and PI3K/AKT/mTOR activation, epigenetic and chromosomal change, hereditary syndromes, the tumor microenvironment, metabolic reprogramming, and the transitions that precede invasion.
-
02
Diagnosis and risk stratification
Cytopathology and reporting categories, fine-needle aspiration, ancillary immunocytochemistry, ultrasound characterization and staging imaging, and the molecular testing that resolves indeterminate nodules and the boundary between benign and malignant lesions. Biomarkers for detection, subtype classification, prognosis and recurrence prediction belong here.
-
03
Surgery and local treatment
Extent of thyroidectomy, lymph-node management, preoperative evaluation, reoperative surgery and complications, together with percutaneous ablative and image-guided interventional techniques.
-
04
Radioiodine and nuclear medicine
Radioiodine selection, dosimetry and ablation practice, post-therapy imaging and radiation safety, diagnostic and theranostic radiopharmaceuticals, and the management of radioiodine-refractory disease.
-
05
Systemic and targeted therapy
Kinase and RET-directed agents, resistance mechanisms and companion-diagnostic evidence, external-beam approaches, and immunotherapy where the evidence in thyroid carcinoma supports it.
-
06
Outcomes, surveillance and survivorship
Thyroglobulin and antibody follow-up, response-to-therapy reassessment, active surveillance of low-risk disease, recurrence and long-term treatment outcomes, and the endocrine and quality-of-life consequences patients live with afterwards.
Benign thyroid lesions are in scope where they bear on cancer — the indeterminate nodule, differential diagnosis, tumor classification, molecular risk assessment and the surgical decision that follows — rather than as general thyroid disease.

04 · Peer review
How a manuscript is handled
Screening and review
All submissions undergo initial editorial screening. Manuscripts that meet the journal's scope and minimum requirements proceed to independent peer review. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. Manuscripts that proceed to external peer review are normally evaluated by at least two independent subject-matter experts.
Decisions
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal. Reviewers advise; the decision is the editor’s, and it is taken independently of any fee, membership, service or role.
Rights and the record
Articles are published under CC BY 4.0 with copyright retained by the authors. Published records display a Crossref DOI under the prefix 10.14302 when one is registered.
05 · Research integrity
Publishing clinical research responsibly
Clinical thyroid-oncology research involving people requires appropriate ethics and consent. These are the standards a manuscript is held to, and they apply equally to a single case report and to a multi-center cohort.
-
Ethics approval and consent
Research involving people, human material or identifiable data reports the approving ethics committee or institutional review board and the consent obtained. Case reports and clinical images require documented consent to publish.
-
Patient privacy
Identifying details are removed from text, tables, images and supplementary files unless they are essential to the science and the patient has consented to their publication.
-
Trial registration
Interventional clinical trials must be registered in an accepted public trial registry at or before the first participant provides consent for enrollment. The registry name, registration number, and registration date must be reported in the manuscript.
-
Study design and claims
Design, staging and classification systems, and statistical methods are reported in full, and conclusions are held to what the design supports: a retrospective or observational study describes association, not causation.
-
Data availability
Every empirical research manuscript must include a data-availability statement.
-
Funding and competing interests
Funding sources, grant numbers and competing interests are declared by every author, and editors and reviewers withdraw from any manuscript in which they have an interest.
-
Corrections and retractions
Corrections, expressions of concern and retractions follow COPE guidance, are linked to the article they concern, and remain part of the permanent record.
-
Editorial independence
Editorial decisions are independent of any fee, membership, service or role. No payment and no editorial position influences the assessment of a manuscript.
06 · Identifiers, discovery and preservation

Portico
This journal's content is committed to Portico, a not-for-profit digital-preservation archive run by ITHAKA (the organization behind JSTOR). As articles are deposited they enter Portico's permanent archive, so the scholarly record stays available for the long term — even if a title one day ceases to publish. Read our preservation policy
07 · For authors
Submitting to JTC
ManuscriptZone is the primary submission route. The simple form provides an account-free alternative, and the editorial office supports assisted submission by email.
- Primary route ManuscriptZone
- Alternative route Simple manuscript submission form
- Assisted route [email protected]
Authors must use only one submission route for the same manuscript.
The table lists the four standard article types with published charges. Case reports, case series, editorials, and commentaries are editorial-agreement types; the editorial office confirms the manuscript format, length, and applicable charge before submission.
| Article type | Charge |
|---|---|
| Original research | USD 1,800 |
| Review article | USD 1,720 |
| Methods and tools | USD 1,600 |
| Short communication | USD 1,720 |
There is no submission fee and no reader charge. The article processing charge is billed after acceptance and supports peer-review coordination, editorial management, production, DOI registration, and long-term archiving. Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal, independently of billing and fee relief.
