The charge
One charge, after acceptance
| Article type | Charge | When |
|---|---|---|
| All article types | USD 2,100 | After acceptance |
The journal applies a single charge across its article types; there is no separate rate for a review, a short report or an editorial. Article types themselves are described in the Instructions for Authors.
What it covers
What the charge pays for
The charge funds the work between acceptance and a permanent, freely readable article.
- Editorial handling and the coordination of peer review
- Copyediting, typesetting and proofing
- Crossref DOI registration and metadata deposit
- Online hosting of the article and its supplementary files
- Open-access publication under CC BY 4.0, with authors retaining copyright
Identifier, harvesting, discovery and preservation arrangements are described on the Indexing page, and the license terms under Copyright and License.
Independence
The charge and the decision are separate
Editorial decisions are based on scope, scientific quality, methodological rigor, ethical compliance, reporting quality, and relevance to the journal.
The charge is raised after a decision has been reached, by people other than the editors who reached it, and it takes no part in that decision. Single-blind by default; double-blind review is available on request. The full governance safeguards are set out in the Editorial Policies.
Billing and fee-relief inquiries are handled by the editorial office and take no part in the editorial decision.
Paying
How the charge is raised
After acceptance the editorial office issues an invoice to the corresponding author or to the paying institution. The invoice carries the payment instructions and a billing contact.
Institutional and third-party payment is accepted, and the editorial office can supply the documentation an institution needs for its own processing. Authors whose institution or funder requires particular invoice wording should say so when the invoice is requested.
Where an institution holds an arrangement with the publisher, its terms are described on the Membership page rather than restated here.
Withdrawal
Withdrawing a manuscript
Authors should contact the editorial office promptly and wait for written confirmation before submitting the work elsewhere.
Manuscripts withdrawn within 3 days of submission are not subject to a withdrawal charge.
Manuscripts withdrawn more than 3 days after submission incur a withdrawal charge equal to 30% of the journal’s APC.
Authors must receive official withdrawal confirmation before submitting the manuscript to another journal.
